Course Description: This presentation provides an overview of the available special hazard fire suppression systems. Special hazard suppression systems include preaction sprinkler systems, water mist systems, water spray systems, clean agent/inert gas systems, CO2 systems, dry/wet chemical systems, foam/foam-water systems and hybrid water-inert gas systems along with a number of manufacturer specific suppression systems. Participants will learn the benefits and suppression means for each system type and what to consider when selecting the appropriate system. The discussion will include evaluating operational performance objectives and key metrics to determine the appropriate balance of performance versus the installation cost of the system.

Learning Objectives:
• Know the full range of available special hazard fire suppression systems and associated NFPA Standard
• Understand the appropriate applications and benefits for each special hazard suppression system type
• Learn the various mechanisms of suppression for each type of special hazard suppression system
• Explain the need to establish responsible performance objectives as part of the system type selection process
