NFPA 20 - Fire Pumps - 2-Day 16hr Course - Spokane Valley, WA - October 22-23, 2019 Course Details Instructor CEUs/Additional Info Format: Live Classroom Training Date: October 22-23, 2019 (8:00am-05:00pm Pacific) Location: Spokane Fire Department, 2120 North Wilbur Road, Spokane Valley, WA 99206 Registration: Must register through Washington State Fire Marshal's Office Course Description: This 2-day course provides a detailed review of the design, installation, and acceptance testing of stationary fire pumps. The course begins with a review of basic pump principles including laminar and balanced flow along with basic hydraulic principles. The difference between centrifugal and positive displacement pumps will be examined. The attendees will learn about the various types of centrifugal fire pumps and how each are best applied. The performance requirements, selection and sizing of pumps will be discussed with hands-on activities to give experience in choosing the most cost effective fire pump. Installation requirements will be thoroughly reviewed with illustrations of acceptable and unacceptable layouts. The purpose of pressure maintenance (jockey) pumps will be thoroughly examined including methods for choosing the correct capacity. The requirement for motor drivers, engine drivers, and their controllers will be examined. Finally, the course examines the requirements for acceptance testing and the required documentation for an approved fire pump installation. Ralph Bless, P.E., SET, CFPS Ralph Bless has more than 30 years experience in fire protection including a broad range of water based and special hazard system design, code consulting and fire protection engineering services. He has provided services to government, hospitality, warehouse/distribution center, retail, convenience, multi-unit development, multifamily housing, industrial, restaurant, and medical accounts. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in six states, is a Level IV NICET senior fire sprinkler layout technician and holds several state and national certifications including that of Certified Fire Protection Specialist. Ralph chairs the NFPA technical committee for Record Storage, NFPA 232, and serves as a primary member of the NFPA technical committees for Water Spray Systems, NFPA 15 as well as an alternate member of the NFPA 13 Correlating Committee. Continuing Education (see details under Certificate section below) - International Code Council - ICC Approved for 1.6 CEU's - NICET Continuing Professional Development Certificate of Completion: Each participant registered, completing the sign-in sheet and attending the full training session will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will include the participants name, training subject, date, number of training hours completed and the Fire Smarts name, address and phone number. Certificates will comply with International Code Council (ICC) CEU requirements for ICC approved training courses. Fire Smarts is an approved training provider of the ICC. ICC CEU’s are assigned based on 0.1 CEU per training contact hour. Certificates can be used as supporting documentation for CPD points required for NICET certification. This applies to the “Additional Education” section of NICET Policy #30 on Continuing Professional Development that allows for CPD points for education to advance, broaden and enhance technical knowledge and job skills. Live Classroom Training This course is presented in a directing and discussion style of teaching. A clear and detailed presentation of the content is given with the aid of PowerPoint presentation slides. Group discussion is encouraged to facilitate understanding and practical application exercises will be given where applicable to the content. A review test is given to measure learning and retention.
