Fire Sprinkler Installation and Placement per NFPA 13 - 16hr Course - Woodinville, WA - December 3-4, 2019 Course Details Instructor CEUs/Additional Info Format: Live Classroom Training Date: December 3-4, 2019 (8:00am-5:00pm Pacific) Location: Woodinville Fire & Rescue Station # 31, 17718 Woodinville/Snohomish Road, Woodinville, WA 98072 Registration: Must register through Washington State Fire Marshal's Office Course Description: This 2-day course focuses on the requirements of NFPA 13 regarding the layout and installation of fire sprinkler systems. It includes an overview of the requirements for selecting the correct occupancy/hazard classification. Acceptable water supplies is reviewed along with approved arrangements. The major types of sprinkler systems are discussed along with the specific requirements for each. The requirements that system components must meet in order to be installed with a sprinkler system are examined including those for sprinklers, pipe, fittings, valves, fire department connections, hangers, and bracing. The installation requirements for piping, hangers, bracing, fire department connections, and valves are discussed in detail. Day two is dedicated to the use of sprinklers. The use of the various types of sprinklers is reviewed along with the requirements for location, spacing, area of coverage, and deflector position. The unique requirements associated with ceiling pockets, thermal sensitivity, clearance from storage, sloped ceilings and roofs are reviewed. An extensive examination of the requirements for positioning sprinklers to avoid obstructions to spray patterns is conducted along with videos and hands-on activities using real-world scenarios. Russ Leavitt, SET, CFPS Russ Leavitt is the Executive Chairman of Telgian Corporation. With over 36 years of experience, he holds a Level IV certification from NICET in Fire Sprinkler Layout and Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation. He is a Board Member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is the chair of the NFPA 13 Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria technical committee, and serves on the NFPA 13 Installation and NFPA 25 technical committees. Russ conducts seminars internationally on a variety of fire and life safety related subjects and has authored a number of articles and training materials including the AFSA ITM training program and online hydraulic calculation course. Continuing Education (see details under Certificate section below) - International Code Council - ICC Approved for 1.6 CEU's - NICET Continuing Professional Development Certificate of Completion: Each participant registered, completing the sign-in sheet and attending the full training session will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will include the participants name, training subject, date, number of training hours completed and the Fire Smarts name, address and phone number. Certificates will comply with International Code Council (ICC) CEU requirements for ICC approved training courses. Fire Smarts is an approved training provider of the ICC. ICC CEU’s are assigned based on 0.1 CEU per training contact hour. Certificates can be used as supporting documentation for CPD points required for NICET certification. This applies to the “Additional Education” section of NICET Policy #30 on Continuing Professional Development that allows for CPD points for education to advance, broaden and enhance technical knowledge and job skills. Live Classroom Training This course is presented in a directing and discussion style of teaching. A clear and detailed presentation of the content is given with the aid of PowerPoint presentation slides. Group discussion is encouraged to facilitate understanding and practical application exercises will be given where applicable to the content. A review test is given to measure learning and retention.
