NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Systems - 3-Day 24hr Course - Lubbock, TX - May 2-4, 2017 Course Details Instructor CEUs/Additional Info Format: Live Classroom Training Date: May 2-4, 2017 Location: Lubbock Fire/Rescue Training Complex, 1515 E Ursuline St, Lubbock, TX 79403 Course Description: This course will start with a review of basic fire alarm system devices and components, and then review types of fire alarm systems. This session will then review NFPA 72 starting at the scope of the document, then through the definitions that drive the application of the code. We will then review the key sections of the code so that the attendees are familiar with the layout and content of NFPA 72. The participants will utilize their learning by conducting exercises and fire alarm plan review determining spacing and proper coverage for both initiating and notification devices. Finally we will review the documentation requirements for fire alarm system acceptance testing and when re-acceptance testing is required. It is recommended that participants bring the NFPA 72 standard as a reference. Course Purpose/Value (Learning Objectives): The purpose of this course is to gain an understanding of fire alarm system devices and components, types of fire alarm systems, and the codes that define requirements for these systems. At the completion of this seminar, the participant should be able to: - Establish which codes apply to fire alarm installations. - Understand the documentation requirements for fire alarm systems. - Review basic spacing rules for standard initiating and notification devices and system design. Tom Parrish, SET, CFPS, PSP Tom Parrish has more than 25 years’ experience in fire protection and emergency response. He has held positions with municipal fire, law enforcement and emergency medical services and in private industry system design and installation programs. Today he still serves as an on-call firefighter certified in firefighting, emergency medical treatment, and hazardous materials response. He serves on several NFPA technical committees and is a regular presenter at NFPA meetings and seminars. His professional credentials include Level IV NICET Certified Fire Alarm Technician, Level III NICET Inspections and Testing, and Master Electrician. He is board certified as a Physical Security Professional by ASIS and holds a bachelor’s in Industrial Technology from the Kean University of New Jersey. Continuing Education (see details under Certificate section below) - International Code Council - ICC Approved for 2.4 CEU's - NICET Continuing Professional Development - Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certificate of Completion: Each participant registered, completing the sign-in sheet and attending the full training session will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will include the participants name, training subject, date, number of training hours completed and the Fire Smarts name, address and phone number. Certificates will comply with International Code Council (ICC) CEU requirements for ICC approved training courses. Fire Smarts is an approved training provider of the ICC. ICC CEU’s are assigned based on 0.1 CEU per training contact hour. Certificates can be used as supporting documentation for CPD points required for NICET certification. This applies to the “Additional Education” section of NICET Policy #30 on Continuing Professional Development that allows for CPD points for education to advance, broaden and enhance technical knowledge and job skills. The Texas Commission on Fire Protection lists several sources of continuing education including “Commission-certified Training Facilities” and “Nationally Recognized Training Providers” as a source of continuing education. Fire Smarts is not a “Commission-certified Training Facility” at this time. Fire Smarts operates as a “Nationally Recognized Training Provider” based on our national presence delivering training at different locations throughout the country and the national recognition of our instructors. Live Classroom Training This course is presented in a directing and discussion style of teaching. A clear and detailed presentation of the content is given with the aid of PowerPoint presentation slides. Group discussion is encouraged to facilitate understanding and practical application exercises will be given where applicable to the content. A review test is given to measure learning and retention.
