The presenter will focus on the use of water mist systems to retrofit existing structures as well as specific applications with industrial fryers, data server rooms, and lithium-ion battery protection. Water mist systems are ideal for historic structures containing dated artifacts and for applications where minimal water use is preferred. Participants will learn how water mist works to suppress or extinguish a fire and gain an understanding of the FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 4-2 titled ‘Water Mist Systems’ for these applications. Learning Objectives: • Explain how water mist suppresses or extinguishes fire in various applications • Understand the benefits of water mist systems when retrofitting existing structures • Learn how water mist protection applies to industrial kitchens, data centers and energy storage systems Paul Buchanan Paul Buchanan holds a civil and fire protection engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and works for Telgian Engineering & Consulting. His background includes working as an NFPA associate engineer providing formal interpretations of NFPA codes and standards. He previously was an applications engineer designing and commissioning water mist fire suppression systems throughout North and South America. Paul is experienced with storage application design and is a certified trainer for a leading water mist system manufacturer.
