Course Description:

This one day seminar provides a review of the significant changes that were incorporated into the 2013 edition of NFPA 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. This seminar also reviews some of the proposed revisions that were rejected by the technical committees as rejected proposals often provide insight for understanding the technical committees’ intent for the requirements found in the standard.

Course Purpose/Value (Learning Objectives):

This seminar provides the enforcer with a summary of the major changes to the standard to ensure that he or she is up-to-date with the latest requirements. Rapid changes in sprinkler technology and ever evolving architectural features, construction material, and hazards require today’s enforcement official to stay current in their understanding and knowledge. The purpose of this seminar is to not only identify changes but to explain why the change was made.At the completion of the seminar, the participant should be able to:
- Explain the standard making revision process.
- Describe the scope and purpose of NFPA 13.
- Understand the definitions of basic terms associated with fire sprinkler systems.
- Identify the major changes to the standard and explain the reason the requirements were added, deleted, or revised.
